April Schweinhart, PhD, earned her doctorate in Experimental Psychology at the University of Louisville in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences in 2015. She continued study as a Postdoctoral Associate at Rutgers University in Newark in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences. Dr. Schweinhart has been working at the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE) since 2016, where she is now a Research Scientist.
Dr. Annie Lewis-O’Connor is a Board Certified Pediatric and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. She is the Founder and Director of the C.A.R.E Clinic (Caring Approach to Resiliency & Empowerment) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. This clinic is committed to providing patient centered and trauma-informed health care to people who have been intentionally harmed by violence. Dr. Lewis-O’Connor addresses violence from four pillars: Research, Policy, Education, and Clinical perspective.
Dr. Lewis-O’Connor is published in peer-reviewed journals and academic books on the topic of violence against women and children and the effects of trauma, violence and abuse on health. Her current research is focused on measuring Trauma-Informed Care models of care in health care settings and exploration of best ‘screening’ (inquiry) methods for trauma, violence and abuse.
Since 2012 Annie has served as one of the Chairs of the Partners Steering Committee on Trauma-Informed Care. She is past Chair of the National Health Collaborative on Violence and Abuse. Since 2010 she has served on the Executive Board of Casa Myrna Vasquez, the oldest and longest standing shelter in Massachusetts for women and children.
In 2012 she was awarded as a Health Care Champion by the Boston Business Journal recognizing her efforts to mitigate the health consequences of violence and trauma. In 2014 Dr. Lewis-O’Connor was inducted as a Fellow into the American Academy of Nursing. In 2018 she was designated as a Fellow in the Academy of Forensic Nurses. She received her Masters in Nursing from Simmons College in Boston, a Masters in Public Health from Boston University and her PhD from Boston College.
Rachael Morris, M.D., M.S., FACOG is an Associate Professor in Maternal Fetal Medicine. She is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine. She is a native of New Orleans, LA and received her medical degree from Louisiana State University in New Orleans. She completed an Obstetrics and Gynecology residency and Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship both at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Morris serves as the Obstetric Covid Director for the OBGYN Department at UMMC.
Cambria Walsh, LCSW is a consultant that provides training and technical assistance on trauma-informed systems and secondary traumatic stress across the United States and Canada. She spent much of her 20-year career working for Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego as a mental health clinician and overseeing state and national grants aimed to support the creation of trauma-informed systems. She has been a consultant with University of Kentucky’s Center on Trauma and Children’s Secondary Traumatic Stress Innovations and Solutions Center since May 2020 and provides training to a wide range of audiences about Secondary Traumatic Stress, Empathic Strain and Moral Distress.
